ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia:  More than 1,100 young people from across Montserrado County gathered over the weekend to participate in a Youth Jamboree organized by the Amplifying Rights Network (ARN), an initiative aimed at promoting awareness and addressing misinformation surrounding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The two-day event, organized by ARN in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), KTK, Medical Liberia, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Help a Mother and Newborn Initiative, SRHR Champions, and other partners, was held from June 19 to 20, 2026.
Held under the theme, “Reclaiming the Narrative: Empowering Youth through Truth, Solidarity, and Expression,” the jamboree provided a vibrant platform for young people to celebrate their achievements, showcase their talents, and engage in meaningful discussions on health, rights, leadership, and community values.
Throughout the two-day program, participants took part in a variety of educational and recreational activities, including dance competitions, musical performances, spoken-word poetry, and board game tournaments. These activities were strategically combined with awareness sessions on sexual and reproductive health and rights, mental health, gender equality, consent, substance abuse prevention, and the challenges young people encounter while transitioning from adolescence to adulthood.
Speaking at the event, ARN and CHI Executive Director Naomi Tulay Solanke described the jamboree as more than just a celebration, calling it “a movement that places young people at the center of national development.”
“Our mission is to ensure that every young person has access to accurate information, a safe space to express themselves, and the confidence to make informed decisions about their health and future,” Solanke said.
She emphasized that empowering young people with knowledge is essential to building stronger communities and a more prosperous nation.
“When we empower young people with knowledge instead of myths, and opportunities instead of fear, we strengthen families, communities, and our nation,” she stated.
Solanke further praised the commitment of partner organizations, youth leaders, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. She urged participants to leave the jamboree as ambassadors of truth, respect, inclusion, and responsible leadership within their respective communities.
The event concluded with renewed calls for greater youth engagement and access to credible information, as organizers reaffirmed their commitment to empowering Liberia’s young people through education, advocacy, and community participation.
