Under the protocol, each member state will send between five to fifteen representatives to the MRU Parliament, reflecting the political and gender composition of their national legislatures. The body is tasked with harmonizing laws, overseeing regional projects, and strengthening collaboration among the four countries.
The MRU Parliament is expected to play a key role in tackling illegal cross-border trade, boosting economic integration, and promoting climate resilience in a region long affected by conflict and fragility.
The meeting also adopted a final communiqué outlining plans for the technical working group to draft rules of procedure and frameworks for implementation.
The MRU Parliament joins efforts by ECOWAS and the African Union to deepen regional integration and amplify West Africa’s collective voice on the continental stage.
