ADNews – Monrovia, Liberia: In a major breakthrough for public health enforcement, the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice – Public Safety Division, the Liberia National Police, the Montserrado County Health Team, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), has arrested Abraham Kamara for impersonating as a medical doctor and conducting a fatal surgical procedure.

According to LMDC, Kamara was apprehended on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Masalam Medical Clinic on Kebbah Road, following a coordinated operation led by Deputy Director of Public Safety, John Bass Golokeh. His arrest marks the culmination of weeks of investigation after LMDC issued a nationwide alert and manhunt on March 25.

Kamara, the owner of the now-shuttered ABC Clinic in Gardnersville and ABC Annex 2 in Kakata, Margibi County, is accused of performing an unauthorized surgery that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Madam Dorcas Vondeh on March 16, 2025.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Madam Vondeh and extend our sincere condolences to her family and community,” said James-Emmanuel D. Cole, Jr., Public Relations Officer of the LMDC. “Her death must not be in vain. This serves as a strong warning to unqualified individuals who pose as medical professionals: such actions will not be tolerated in Liberia.”

In the wake of Vondeh’s death, the LMDC immediately shut down both ABC Clinic facilities and worked with national authorities to locate and arrest Kamara. The Council also commended the public for their assistance in providing critical information that contributed to the successful operation.

Deputy Director Golokeh expressed gratitude to the citizens who came forward with credible leads. “This arrest is a victory for public safety,” he said. “No one should suffer or die at the hands of unqualified individuals. We will enforce zero tolerance for quack medical practices. Anyone endangering lives through illegal operations will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities prepare to prosecute Kamara for his alleged crimes.
