ADNew-Monrovia, Liberia: The Ministry of Labour has strongly refuted claims made by Spoon FM CEO, Stanton Witherspoon, alleging that Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah purchased a vehicle worth USD 90,000 in violation of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) Act.
In an official press release issued on Sunday, October 4, 2025, and signed by E. Frederick Baye, Deputy Director for Communications and Public Affairs, the Ministry described the allegation as false and misleading.
According to the release, the vehicle in question,a Ford Everest XLS 4×4 Petrol, 10-Speed Transmission, was purchased at a cost of USD 45,000 through the Government of Liberia’s approved procurement process, coordinated by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) in line with PPCC regulations.
The Ministry provided the official purchase invoice from Prestige Motors Company, located on Bushrod Island, identifying the transaction under invoice number #1424.
The statement further explained that the procurement was initiated following a letter dated April 4, 2024, from Minister Kruah to President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, requesting an official vehicle to facilitate his duties in strengthening the labour sector and advancing the government’s ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes job creation and workforce transformation for Liberians.
The request, according to the release, was approved by President Boakai and duly executed by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour has challenged Witherspoon to provide evidence supporting his claim, emphasizing the Boakai-Koung administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance under the Rescue Mission Government.
