ADNews-Monrovia, Liberia: Unconfirmed information reaching Afric Daily Newspaper suggests that Lofa County Senator and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lofa County University, Momo T. Cyrus, along with former Defence Minister Brownie J. Samukai, are allegedly engaged in behind-the-scenes efforts to dilute corruption charges against the University’s President, Dr. Isaac Podah.
Accordingly, Cyrus and Samukai have reportedly urged Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Natu Tweh to intervene by contacting the Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Alexandra Zoe, in an attempt to halt the case against Dr. Podah.
Dr. Podah has faced a series of corruption allegations in recent months, including claims of illegal hiring and dismissal of staff and administrators, as well as the alleged mismanagement and unaccounted expenditure of substantial sums intended for the University’s operations.
The LACC has been investigating the matter, and sources indicate the Commission is poised to file formal charges against Dr. Podah—potentially as early as today.
Despite corruption continuing to rob millions of Liberians of basic necessities such as healthcare, education, and clean drinking water, the national fight against graft is often hampered by interference from powerful political figures and policymakers.
It can be recalled that the University offered close to one million local currency recently to the Samuka Family for the burial of Brownie J. Samukai,s mother which many characterized as misuse of public funds.
Investigation continues to the logical conclusion.
