At the invitation of Hon. Vincent S.T. Willie,Ⅱof the Honorable House of Representatives, the China medical team went to Wayzohn City, Grand Bassa County, for a free clinic again from April 7-8.

Wayzohn City is located in the hinterland of the forest, and the transportation infrastructure is weak. After the long rainy season, the transportation between the community and the outside world is more inconvenient, including the difficulty to support drugs and other materials, and the shortage of drugs often occurs. Therefore, there are a large number of uncontrolled treatment cases of hypertension and malaria, which seriously affect the health and production and life of residents.

According to the characteristics of local epidemiology, combined with the last diagnosis of the disease spectrum of the region, the China medical team adjusted the types of drugs in this free clinic, mainly increased the antihypertensive drugs, antibiotics, antimalarial drugs, antipyretic analgesics and proportion, and combined with the local climate and residents characteristics, added the Huoxiang zhengqi capsule, Shufeng jiedu capsule and other Chinese patent medicine. This free clinic provided free diagnosis and treatment services for local community residents in internal medicine, cardiology, general surgery, dental surgery, traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture), ultrasound and basic health care, with a total of about 400 patients, more than 600 boxes of various drugs and more than 500 copies of various health promotion products.

Community resident Kabbade said: ” Thank the Chinese doctors for coming here again to help us. I came in line early for Chinese doctors to treat me. They said I had malaria, gave me and my family antimalarial drugs, and told us how to prevent malaria. Last year, a Chinese doctor treat my eyes and gave me some free medicine, so that I would not go blind. Thanks really very much.”

Representative Vicent said: ” Last year, the China medical team’s free clinic here caused widespread concern and a huge sensation. Residents have a strong desire and call for Chinese doctors to come to the clinic again. Thank them for accepting my invitation again, and choosing, before the rainy season, to drive more than four hours from Monrovia to deliver the precious medicine to the people in need, which will greatly help these patients. Their actions fully show that China is sincerely helping us, and they show that China is a responsible major country in the international community.”

Mr.Xu Kun, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, said, ” This year marks the 60th anniversary of China sending medical teams to developing countries. We, together with Mr. Vicent and Governor, came to visit the medical team.The mountain road is bumpy and bumpy, and we deeply understand the hardships and difficulties endured by the medical team members, sincerely thank every member of the team for their outstanding contributions to building a China-Africa human health community and promoting China-Liberia relations, hope they keep in mind President Xi’s instructions, benevolence to benefit the local people, continue to bilateral health exchanges and the relations between the two countries to make new contributions.”

Wang Liang, head of China medical team, said, ” Thanks to Representative Vicent and the community residents for their full trust in the medical team. The medical team will earnestly practice President Xi’s instructions and make greater contribution to the building of a community of human health and the friendship between China and Liberia.”

The Chinese Embassy provided great help for the two free clinics. On the same day, Mr.Xu Kun, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, Gou Fei and Li Haolei, secretary of the Embassy, Governor of Grand Bassa County and Mr.Gao Feng, visited the medical team at the free clinic.

In August 2022, the China medical team had been invited to the region to provide a free medical clinic to more than 450 local residents, which was warmly welcomed by the local residents.
