CDC Trauma Deepens

Less than a Month Out of Power

The aftermath of the recent elections has plunged the former ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) into a state of turmoil, with the emergence of a new platform, “ The Masses Voice” to  propagating misinformation and disinformation about President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s diplomatic relations and well-being, in less than a month into his tenure.

In their initial communication, which faced immediate backlash from the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana near  Monrovia, they falsely claimed that Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had lodged a complaint to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) against Boakai for alleged unauthorized entry into Ghana.

Despite swift denials from the Ghanaian government, CDC supporters continued to utilize the platform to suggest that Boakai had been rushed to ELWA Hospital on an emergency basis on February 18, fueling rumors of his imminent evacuation abroad for medical treatment.

However, a few  hours later, Boakai was photographed attending the closure of the Baptist Convention in Brewerville, countering the circulating social media claims of his hospitalization.

The CDC, once hailed as a grassroots movement that ascended to power in the 2017 elections but subsequently lost to the Unity Party (UP) in 2023 due to allegations of corruption and abuse of power, has resorted to employing the platform “The Masses Voice” for spreading false propaganda.

According to a source within the CDC executive,  the former Montserrado district #8 lawmaker Moses Acarous Gray is a prominent figure behind the recent surge in disinformation campaigns orchestrated by the CDC.

As the CDC grapples with its loss of power and attempts to undermine the current administration through deceptive means, concerns are mounting over the impact of such tactics on public trust and political stability in Liberia.
