Government Assures Press Freedom

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), has pledged its commitment to upholding press freedom, the Table Mountain Declaration, and the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law in the country.

During the official celebration of World Radio Day in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Mr. Lawrence M. Fahnbulleh, the Director of Press and Public Affairs at MICAT, representing the ministry, assured the Liberian media that President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s administration would prioritize press freedom to the fullest extent.

He  emphasized the significance of radio as a source of information, entertainment, and education, stressing the need for responsible broadcasting.

However, he cautioned against the misuse of radio to spread lies and falsehoods about public officials and ordinary citizens, urging broadcasters to adhere to their intended purpose.

Director Fahnbulleh highlighted the importance of reflecting on this year’s World Radio Day, urging all broadcast journalists to ethically inform and entertain the public in their daily broadcasts.

“At this special and pivotal point in its century-long journey, the government invites the global radio industry in all its many forms – commercial, public, and non-profit – to join in this global world to celebrate World Radio Day”,Mr. Fahnbulleh  disclosed.
