Liberia Seeks Aviation Cooperation with Qatar

Mr. Julius D. Dennis, Director-General of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA), met with Qatari aviation officials during the 3rd Future Aviation Forum (FAF 2024) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The invitation to the forum, held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), provided an opportunity for Mr. Dennis to engage with Mr. Mohammed Faleh Alhajri, Acting President of Civil Aviation of the State of Qatar, and Ms. Aisha Ali Al-Nuaimi, Acting Director of International Cooperation for Civil Aviation of Qatar.

Discussions focused on establishing stronger aviation ties between Liberia and Qatar.  Key areas of interest included:

1. Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to facilitate collaboration on aviation safety, security, and training.

2. Negotiating a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to establish a legal framework for airlines of Qatar to operate scheduled flights.

“This meeting represents a significant step forward in fostering closer aviation cooperation with Qatar,” said Mr. Dennis. “An MOU and BASA would provide mutual benefits for our countries, promoting trade, tourism, and economic growth.”

The LCAA anticipates receiving a formal invitation from Qatari aviation authorities to continue these discussions in Doha, Qatar. This would allow for a more detailed exploration of potential cooperation opportunities.

The LCAA remains committed to developing strategic partnerships that enhance Liberia’s aviation sector and connect the nation to key global markets as part of president Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST agenda.
