The race to the House Speaker Post… Whose Becomes Liberia’s 55th House Speaker? The battle for the lower house speaker post of the Republic of Liberia has begun with potential candidates forming bloc alliances. One of the potential candidates is deputy house speaker of the 54rd legislature, veteran parliamentarian and astute lawyer HonCllr J Fonati Koffa koffa of Grand Kru County. Koffa comes with lots of experience as a parliamentarian and a seasoned politician/ lawyer. He is also a humanitarian and an international lobbyist. He brings so much to the table.
Another potential candidate is business tycoon, Musa Hassan Bility. Musa has also been associated deeply with politics in Liberia but with crocky records. He is the national chairman of the opposition Liberty Party and representative elect of Nimba County, district 7. Musa has a dark cloud over his international reputation as he was convicted for criminal charges by the world football body. Musa has limited international lobbying ability because of his criminal charges by FIFA.
The third person is Prescilla Abram Cooper , the only female potential candidate for the speaker post. Newly elected on the opposition Unity Party in district#5, Montserrado County. Priscilla is a business entrepreneur , politician and humanitarian. Since the establishment of the national legislature Priscilla is the first and only female lawmaker who has expressed desire of being the speaker of the house of representatives. She is lobbying other female lawmakers and male lawmakers who believe in women empowerment and participation in national leadership. She brings to the table integrity, hard work, teamwork, and lobbying ability. She also has great experience in the corporate world. If elected as the 55 house speaker, she will be the first female house speaker of Liberia.if she is elected, this means so much for Liberian women and their political sojourn..
The fourth person, is veteran lawmaker and business tycoon Thomas P. Fallah , representative elect of Lofa County, district#1. He served as chairman of the house ways and means committee of the 54 legislature. Fallah is a seasoned politician with over 18 years as lawmaker. He and koffa are both from the ruling party, the CDC. Not much is known about Fallah’s international lobbying ability.
