The Monrovia City Corporation MCC police carry firearms under Mayor Koijee watch, even though it’s unconstitutional and has the propensity to post threats on the fragile peace the Country is experiencing.
Day after the MCC police Director, Thomas Garwo Jr. misled the public through their press conference stating that he’s a certified arm carrier, trained and certificated by the Liberia National Police LNP with the authority given him to carry firearm, the LNP Inspector General, Mr. Patrick Sudue told the House of the Senate on Tuesday February 28 ,2022 that Thomas Garwo Jr. is no longer under the employ of LNP and has no right to carry a firearm.
According to the police IG, Thomas was disarmed taking the LNP firearm which was assigned with him upon taking over his new assignment as the MCC Police Director, and any other arm he uses is not in the know of LNP declaring it an illegal arm.
Over a long period, the MCC Director Thomas Garwo with his deputy for operations have been carrying firearms but the LNP IG Patrick on his Tuesday appearance at the Senate assured the public to go after him after several interrogations to know the authority they have to carry arms.
MCC Police firearm carrier issue arose after their Deputy for operations allegedly invaded the home of the former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott to assassinate her that left one of her daughters dead and another seriously injured who is fighting for her life in the hospital.
After an assassination attack against Cllr. Scott, the defunct Truth and Reconstruction Commission TRC Chairman Cllr. Jerome Vardier accused the Monrovia City deputy police director for operations, Mr. Varlee Telleh of committing the act.
According to him, Mayor Koijee is operating with dead square who played a major part in the brutal civil war headed by his deputy police director for an operation to kill prominent people in President Weah regime.
