The President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyomblee Karngar Lawrence has declared two statutory committees, including Judiciary, and Defence, Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs as the most productive committees in the first quarter.
According to her, the Committees deserve to be honor legally for their dedicated services at the Liberian Senate.The President Pro-Tempore, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence made the disclosure at the first day sitting of the Special Session of the Liberian Senate, held on Tuesday April 2, 2024. According to the President Pro-Tempore, both committees chaired by Senators Augustine Chea and Momo T. Cyrus of Sinoe and Lofa Counties respectively were very instrumental in leading investigations into the true causes behind the recent protests by women believed to be wives and widows of military personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia. On behalf of the Senate, the President Pro-Tempore expressed gratitude to both committees for the hard work, which includes the submission of a very comprehensive report that has been circulated to the Office of the President, all relevant ministries and agencies, as well as individuals who were party to the investigation. The President Pro-Tempore continues that such comprehensive and informative report by both committee, sets the basis for coordination in finding immediate and long-term solutions to the issues affecting wives of military personnel.According to a release from the Senate Press and Public Affairs Department, the President Pro-Tempore also used the occasion to set the agenda for the special Session, which includes the FY2024 National Budget, pending nominations for confirmation, pending legislations, and other matters of time-sensitive nature focused on national development, integrity, transparency and accountability. Speaking briefly to reporters following the announcement of the accolade bestowed on the Committees, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs, Senator Momo T. Cyrus appreciated and commended the leadership for recognizing the work of the Committees.He at the same time extolled the Citizens of Lofa County for giving him the opportunity to serve at the Liberian senate, noting that the recognition of his committee has re-energized him to continue to work on behalf of the Country.Senator Cyrus also acknowledged the President Pro-Tempore for her farsightedness in recognizing the work for the people of Liberia.Senator Cyrus also used the occasion to thank the People of Lofa County for giving him the opportunity to serve.
