—Blames MPW for misinformation
By Joseph Tumbey
Liberia Finance Planning and Development Minister, Samuel Tweah Jr. has blamed the Public works Ministry of providing him miscalculated figures making him to had spread falsehood under oath to the public that the Coalition For Democratic Change (CDC) Regime has paved 1,374 KM roads, as the highest constructed by any regime in the history of the country.
Few weeks after his pronouncement, Minister Tweah has admitted misleading the public about the kilometers of roads President George Weah Government has paved since 2018.
In his appearance on Freedom Radio in Monrovia, on Monday July 3, Tweah blamed the Public Works Ministry for providing him misinformation he spreads out without verification.
According to him, the actual kilometers of roads constructed within five years, as provided by the Ministry of Public Works, is 347 Kilometers instead of 1,374 KM road as he stated weeks ago on the State Radio, ELBC 99.9 with simulcast over various radio stations across the country.
He appeared alongside Liberia Maritime Commissioner, Lenn Eugene Nagbeh on the Monday, June 19, 2023, edition of the Super Morning Show (SMS) on the State-own broadcaster, ELBC in Monrovia.
The interview conversation was centered around happenings in and around the government with major focus on the economy, healthcare, education, infrastructure, elections and amongst other things.
At the interview, Tweah also revealed that the former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf ran a type of economy that he described as a “balloon economy”, and claimed that “no real money was in Liberia” at that time.
Following Minister Tweah’s assertion, several callers on the show as social media bloggers gave contrary views to what the Minister spoke, including taking millions of Liberians out of poverty, where there is no visible impact in the lives of the ordinary people.
After several callers defied with his assertion that the CDC government headed by President George Weah had lift millions of Liberians out poverty, the Minister in an amazing admission, acknowledged the government’s failure to considerably reduce poverty as envisioned in the administration’s Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development.
