The huge and day long protest over the weekend held at the home of President Weah “Jamaica Resort” along the Robert International Airport highway by Gbarpolu County Citizens in demand of their 53.3 carats diamond has claimed the attention of the President, as the Ministry of Justice has requested Mines and Energy Ministry to stay all activities Surrounding said diamond pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation by the Joint Security Board.
In the letter addressed to Mines and Energy Minister, Gestler E. Murray from the Solicitor General, Cllr. Nyenati Tuan on June 1,2023 requested a stay order on every activity relating to the 53.3 carats diamond saga for now.
“We present our compliments and herewith bring to your attention a staged protest on the 1st of June 2023, right before the home of the President by miners and parties of those that found the 53.3 Carat Diamond in smith Town, Gbarpolu County, Liberia.
This has claimed the attention of the President and we herewith request that you stay all activities Surrounding said diamond pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation by the Joint Security Board.
As a Ministry, we want to ensure that justice is Served, peace is restored and having common ground in all of the claims“, the letter to the Mines and Energy Ministry explained.
Justice Ministry also added that they will dispatch a team from the Board of their Joint Security, and experts/technicians from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, knowledgeable in-the processes associated with Diamond Mining and National Police Officers (LNP) to Smith Town and Weasua, Gbarpolu County, to verified locations and/or sites of different claims as mentioned in the Investigative Report.
