The River Gee County Senator, Jonathan Boye Charles Sogbie and Montserrado Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon have raised serious concern over the disappearance of the National Transit Authority buses on the main streets of Monrovia.
Raising the red flag before the Senate plenary during Tuesday’s regular session Jonathan Sogbie stressed that the NTA as an institution, is charged with the responsibility to provide affordable transport services for the citizens.
He recounted, based on this responsibility of the government’s entity, the people and government of India provided Liberia 45 brand new buses to ease the high cost of transportation.
But the River Gee County Senator said the buses have disappeared from the main streets of the nation’s capital without an update from the National Transit Authority about their whereabouts.
According to him, the unavailability of the buses is causing inconveniences for students, struggling mothers and fathers thus forcing them to wait and fight for tricycle, motorbike or taxi caps to get to their various destinations.
He therefore called on the leadership of the Liberian Senate to probe into the matter as it is a major concern to curb the burden of transportation and bring relief to the citizens.
Also speaking, the Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon termed the situation as a grave concern and called on the Senate Committee on Transport to report to plenary for an appropriate action.
Senator Dillon accused those in authority at the National Transit Authority of being very cold with poor managerial skills to properly ensure the effective operations of that public entity.
