The first batch of the controversial Yellow Machines has arrived in the country through the Free Port of Monrovia under the Presidential Infrastructure Project (PIP) to be used by the 15 sub-political divisions of the country. Still, the date of the next arrival remains unclear.
Out of the 285 earth-moving machines earlier announced by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s government during their first cabinet retreat in May this year, six of the Yellow Machines, 13 Dump-trucks and three water tanks entered the country over the weekend as thousands of Liberians stood by the roadside to celebrate its arrival.
Receiving the equipment on Saturday, July 6, the Deputy State and Presidential Affairs Minister without Portfolio, Mamaka Bility, on behalf of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, stated that their initiative demonstrates the Unity Party’s determination to making road inaccessibility a history.
Minister Bility further emphasized that machines are crucial for Liberia’s road construction efforts, especially in helping to build and maintain essential infrastructure, including the creation of additional jobs for other young Liberians.
Liberian government paraded with the first batch of the 285 earth-moving machines and trucks in the streets of Monrovia to showcase their commitment.
The new pieces of equipment with the inscription “made in China” have been stored at the EBK Military Barrack in central Monrovia until the rest arrive before commencing the distribution.
“Thank you, our talk-and-do President. We trust you, and you’re not making us ashamed. We believe in you”, a Cross section of onlookers intoned.
