The University of Liberia Department of Communication, Press Union of Liberia in Partnership with the Volunteers for Sustainable Media Studies VOSIEDA with support from the United Nation Democracy Fund UNDEF launched the Press Union of Liberia “PUL Crimes Reporting” application to strengthen independent media and freedom of information.
Accordingly, the app will allow Journalists and media workers to report attacks and brutalities against them across the Country.
On Monday May 1, PUL hosted several Journalists across the Country at their headquarters in Monrovia to witness the launch and be trained as trainers to train others in applying the App in their respective communities.
Speaking at the launch, the PUL Vice President Daniel Nyankona encourages Journalists to take advantage of the App and said Journalists are mostly targeted by politicians during and after elections.
” Elections are around and Journalists are mostly targeted by politicians, this App is for you and helps a lot in knowing the day to day violence against Journalists. It’s here forever. The only thing you need is to download it on google play store.
Whatever violation you report on the app will immediately be seen by the press Union of Liberia and the entire Global Journalists community, and we are ready to respond to you as fast as possible”, PUL Vice President stated.
He added that Journalists safety is a human right and must be respected and protected as it’s guaranteed by local and international laws.
