The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested and is investigating seven former Executive Protection Service (EPS) agents for their alleged involvement in an illegal protest. The individuals are accused of setting up roadblocks and using terroristic remarks that have the potential to undermine national stability. The arrested individuals include J. Frank Hope (43), Nathaniel S. Toe (43), Andy P. Yeancy (47), Samuel Reeves (44), Anthony Mccrowrey (39), James Kelly (32), and Augustine Glealeh (29).
The alleged former EPS agents are currently detained at the Liberia National Police Headquarters, where they are undergoing investigation.
Early Thursday morning, individuals claiming to be dismissed EPS agents were observed agitating, demonstrating, and blocking roads near the Voice of Liberia Radio station (104.1 FM). Their actions disrupted the movement of residents and businesses, as they demanded reinstatement.
In another development, the LNP has suspended four of its officers and initiated an investigation through the Professional Standards Division (PSD) regarding their alleged involvement in a homicide incident in the 72nd community, Paynesville. This incident occurred during the early morning hours of April 17, 2024.
The decision to suspend the officers stems from claims made by family sources that excessive force was used during the arrest of suspect James Boima. The deceased individual, Austin Yarkpawolo, uncle of the suspect, reportedly died as a result of the force used by the arresting officers.
The investigation aims to uncover the truth surrounding the death of the victim, with appropriate actions to be taken by the Liberia National Police administration where necessary.
Authorities urge the public to remain calm, assuring them that justice will be served.
