Afric Daily Newspaper – Monrovia: As the internal  wrangling  intensified  within  the opposition  Liberty  party,  the embattled  Political Leader of the Party,   Senator  Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence with her supporters  accused  the National  Elections Commission   of being  biased  by Favoring  the party  Chairman, Musa Hassan  Bility   over their ongoing  constitutional saga.

Senator  Kangar rallied  huge  supporters on Friday  October 28  petitioning  the US Embassy  with other international  partners including  the Head of the NEC,Madam Davidetta Browne-Lansanah   over what they said was the NEC  role to embolden the conflict within the Liberty Party.

According to them, after  their  2021 Gbanga  convention  that  brought  Musa to Chairmanship,  he along with  the secretary  elect by then, Martin Kular  stole their  constitution, proceeded to alter provisions relating to the power relation between the Political Leader and the National Executive Committee and secretly  delivered  it to the National  elections Commission  unknown  to the   convention  presiding  officer  and their  Political  leader,  Senator Nyomblee .

The Embattled   LP Political  Leader  said, NEC rejected  their  request  and insisted   not to return the document until properly challenged after informing them  that the documents from the convention were submitted outside of the Commission’s Revised Guidelines and that provisions approved by delegates had been altered, thus necessitating a retrieval for correction.

“Your Excellences, attached to this statement are records from the side of the Political Leader of the Liberty Party for your perusal. In all of this, we believe the NEC is being used by hidden hands, clearly the ruling party from which it receives instructions, to preside over the systematic disintegration of Liberty Party, and we are not prepared to see this happen”, their  petition stated.

However, they  predict Liberia could be headed for trouble, should the Commission remain as it presently  from her role in the procurement of twenty (20) thermometers with a price tag of USD$9,166 per piece which in reality was valued at USD$500 per unit, to the current procurement process for the biometric materials that is endangering the conduct of the 2023 Elections resulting  to a clear lack of direction for democratic process.

“It being clear that the NEC is the principal enabler of the negative actions of Mr. Bility in the ongoing intra-party conflict, we request, Your Excellences, to exert all influence at your disposal on the NEC to have it log without delay, the corrected version of the Liberty Party Constitution. This will, in effect, bring to a close the question of who does what in the party, as the Constitution is very clear on this matter.

In view of the corrupt nature of the Chairperson of NEC, she should step down as head of NEC in order to restore confidence in the Commission. Her retention as Chair will be a bad omen for free, fair and credible 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

That due to the incompetency of the Board of Commissioners and their ruling party affiliation, a five-member counterpart commissioners composed of Electoral Experts from: ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations be established to jointly conduct the 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections to prevent the country from returning to chaos”, they recommended  during their petition.
