An Employees of the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism  MICAT  staged a massive protest over the weekend  for low salaries  and blamed their former Minister  now Commissioner of the  Maritime Authority, Mr. Eugene  Nagbeh for flooding   the Ministry payroll  with ghost  names during  his tenure  and recommending  auditing  in salaries disparity.

On  Thursday  November  11,2022.  Workers of the Ministry  seized  the facility  and were completely  dressed in  black   demanding salaries increment  from the head of State with his Finance Minister,  President  George Weah  and Samuel  D.Tweh Jr. respectively.

Speaking  with one of the protesters  who claimed  to be the Deputy  Manager  from the Central  Printing  Incorporated CPI of the Ministry, Mr. Moses P. Roberts; he said  they have realized a huge salary  disparity  and recommended  an immediate  auditing to clean ghost names on the payroll

According  to him,  when Eugene  Nagbeh  took over the Ministry in 2016 to 2020,  he brought   in several  names outside  the Ministry  including:  the National  team “Lonestar”  player, Christopher  Wleh  on the Ministry payroll.

” The people  Eugene  brought  are still being paid while employees  at the Ministry  with profession  and technical skills   are underpaid.

Those  who are supposed to receive  UD$ 300 are taking  US$150 while  some people  who are supposed to be paid US$800 are being  paid with UD$180″, the Deputy  Director of CPI Mr Moses P. Roberts  explained.

The protesters  in loud voices  however  demanded  the Government to   immediately  conduct an audit in their  salaries  disparity   to remove  ghosts’ names on their payroll  and increase  their salaries  according  to their  positions  and qualifications.

According to them,  there is no good government in the World where the Civil Servants salaries are cut while  non-employees of the agency or Minister  are paid  by the Ministry.

“These things must end today, we are not moving until our needs can be addressed”, the protesters told  reporters at the scene.
