The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) has donated 500 cellphones, valued at $5,000, to the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC). These cellphones will be used by Liberian refugees returning home from Ghana after decades away, providing them with easy access to connect with their families.
The donation was presented by LPRC Corporate Affairs Manager, William K. Morris, on behalf of LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh. Morris disclosed that upon receiving the list of requests from LRRRC, Managing Director Tweh deemed it important to provide cell phones for the returning brothers and sisters
Morris explained the source of this initiative, stating, “LPRC has a Corporate Affairs Department, and under that, we have a corporate social responsibility program. This donation is part of our commitment to that responsibility.”
Reacting to LPRC’s efforts, Deputy Executive Director for Administration at LRRRC, A.J. Armah Karneh, described the gift as a significant gesture supporting their efforts toward aiding the returnees. He expressed gratitude to the LPRC management for their swift response to the needs of the returnees.
Karneh also encouraged other humanitarian groups to follow LPRC’s example, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in supporting returnees.
The timing of LPRC’s donation was particularly noteworthy, as it arrived on May 23, just one day before the returnees were scheduled to land back home. This timely assistance ensured that the returnees would have the means to reconnect with their families upon arrival.
This donation highlights LPRC’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community support. By providing these cellphones, LPRC has significantly contributed to easing the transition for the returning refugees.
The return of these refugees marks a significant milestone in their lives, and the support from organizations like LPRC plays a crucial role in facilitating their reintegration into Liberian society.
Overall, LPRC’s donation is a testament to the positive impact that corporate social responsibility initiatives can have on communities, particularly those in vulnerable situations.
