LDEA Burns Millions Worth of Drugs

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency,  LDEA has burned illicit drugs confiscated over a time worth about 60.M Liberian Dollars in an effort  to eliminate drug consumption in the society. 

The drug substances and quantity  disposed of are: Heroin 2,951.6 kg, Cocaine  541.6kg, Kush 13,381kg, Marijuana 1, 472.6 kg, Tramadol 2,609.3 kg, Precursor 1,896.4kg and Methamphetamine  243.6kg Grand Total  street value 

USD 337,180.00 or  LD 64, 064,200.00

The LDEA  with their international partners, members of the legislature and executive, carried out the process on Friday, July 8, 2024, around the Disco Hill Community in lower Margibi County.

Speaking at the event, the Officer in Charge (OIC) of LDEA, Christopher  Peters, said the process is part of their annual activities in disposing of drugs confiscated to commemorate World Drug Day.

“We are grateful to be here today to burn drugs in the seizure we have over the year under review,” LDEA OIC stated. 

In a special Remarks,  the  Assistant Director for  International  Narcotics and law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the US Embassy  near  Monrovia,  Mr. Stephen  Kissik reassure the US commitment to fighting drugs in Liberia 

He termed the process as a success and commended the LDEA  for their efforts in fighting drugs across the country. 

Meanwhile,   the Grand Bassa County District # 5 Lawmaker, Rep. Thomas A. Gosuah II said, the House’s commitment to fighting drugs remains unbendable 

He maintained that the legislature will continue pushing to save the current and future generations from drug and substance abuse.

Atty. Siaffa Bahn Kemokai, II, Special Assistant to the Minister of Justice who spoke on behalf of the Justice Ministry also joined others to assure the ministry’s commitment to boosting the LDEA efforts to make Liberia a drug-free society.
