(Press Statement: 20 December 2023 – Brewerville, Montserrado, Liberia) – The pro-democracy, governance and advocacy group – Movement for Promotion for Non-violence Elections in Liberia says, Deputy House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa is the heartbeat of legislators, staffers and the Liberian people because he is noted as a transformer of modern legislative workings.

In a statement issued by MOPNEL Executive Director, Bobby W. Dixon on 21 December 2023 in Monrovia, the pro-democracy group discloses that Cllr. Koffa understands the issues of the time. According to the group, the Deputy Speaker is an all-season politician who crosses all boundaries.

MOPNEL says, having followed keenly the public outcries to members of the incoming 55th Legislature from the Civil Society Organizations, Youth, Women and student groups as well as from several incoming lawmakers of the 55th Legislature, it can safely deduce Deputy Speaker Koffa is the choice of his colleagues to become the Speaker for the next six years.

The pro-democracy, governance and advocacy group is fully aware that one of the first things that Deputy Speaker Koffa wants to look at when he is elected Speaker is that, the Budget should operate to the benefit of the constituents, which are the people who live in the electoral districts. He will advocate for at least a huge percentage of the budget goes towards healthcare, education and youth empower in each of the 73 electoral districts as it will impact national and economic development in Liberia.

MOPNEL believes if Deputy Speaker Koffa is elected by his colleagues to the Speakership to head the House of Representatives for the next six years, he will champion Legislative Reforms that was begun in the last three or four years. The group says Cllr. Koffa believes in transparency and accountability in doing business at the Legislature; and it is of the belief that the presumptive Speaker of the 55th Legislature will accelerate the pace of reforms so that the public can have more imports and more judgements of what their lawmakers do.

In so doing, MOPNEL re-emphasizes the need for incoming members of the 55th Legislature to soberly reflect and see the needs of the people at first hand and elect Deputy Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa as Speaker for the next six years in keeping with Liberia’s democratic space. Koffa, according to MOPNEL, is the people’s lawmaker who has always put their interests above all else…
