Public  health workers under the banner, “Southeastern Health Workers Network”   including Maryland, Sinoe, River Gee, Grand Gedeh and Grand Kru have announced their go slow protest  starting from July 20, for lack of proper  salaries among other basic necessities.

The workers accused the government of Liberia of failing to address  several  issues including  Constant deduction of salaries,

Salaries disparities, Inclusion of volunteer health workers, Low salaries,   Replacement of pensioned health workers among others.

Meanwhile,  the workers  are demanding  that the  SAAR Insurance company should no longer be accepted for the general health workers population in the Southeast region due to what they call,  its insignificance to  deal with about 90 percent of health workers in the Southeast.

They’re also   saying that the government has failed  to replace ghost names identified during the independent verification conducted by the leadership of the Southeastern health workers Network over a long period.

According to them, during their  June 2022 go slow action, the leadership  was asked by the government through the above Health  and Finance  Ministry  alongside the Civil Service Agency  to cut off their action in which they  committed to address their  concerns.

“Though, when the go slow action began, about eight hundred health workers’ names were released and partially benefited from little increment leaving the majority out.

“As we speak, the leadership has been heavily criticized by colleagues for the government’s partial decision to have added little percentage on few health workers’ salaries and also expressing that the little increment was not done with expectation. Following our action last year, the leadership of the Southeastern health workers Network was asked to conduct independent verification for all health workers and over 50 health workers were identified as ghosts. These ghosts are yet to be replaced” they group noted.
