One of Liberia’s leading advocacy groups, the South East Social Justice Network has condemned to the strongest term the recent wave of violence in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County following the death of district #1 Representative, Erol Madison Gwion who passed on December 5 of this year while seeking treatment outside Liberia.
The group encourages residents of Grand Gedeh to get actively involved in dialogue rather than taking the law into their own hands.
The South East Social Justice Network is urging the government of Liberia through the ministry of justice headed, Cllr. Musa Dean to investigate and prosecute those involved without tribalism or political affiliations.
Recent actions by angry citizens led to the vandilazation of thé headquarters of the Traditional Council,Several properties belonging to Senator Zoe.Emmanuel Pennue and houses of Madam Beatrice Gwion sister to Late Representative Gwion for their alleged involvement in the death of the lawmaker without tangible evidence.
Despite the grief, the Network unequivocally denounced the violent actions, labeling it as unacceptable and calling for an impartial investigation by Liberia National Police.
According to the Executive Director of the group, Watson Chelly, the alarming trend of violence in Grand Gedeh County is unbecoming ,citing previous incidents involving the burning of a police station, attacks on Collaborating Political Parties Officials Alexander Benedict Cummings And Representative Yekeh Kolubah , and recent assaults on opposition supporters.
The South East Social Justice Network emphasized the need for dialogue and peaceful resolutions, asserting that violence has never solved Liberia’s problems.
« Protect the hard-earned peace and stability of our country,Liberia be aware that violence has never help our country but brings us backward and it’s our collective responsibility as citizens to safeguard Liberia’s unity and peace.
“There’s an urgent need for a peaceful resolution and a commitment to upholding the principles of justice in the wake of this unfortunate incident in Zwedru and respect for the rule of law,” E.D Chelly Said.
South East Social Justice Network Executive Director is also urging Grand Gedeans to avoid voilent actions that will paint the county image bad but encourage them to get involved into peaceful resolutions something he said will yield positive results.
