A Civil society Organization fighting against injustices

The Liberia Children  Forum, formerly   Children  Parliament,  has threatened  to sue the Government of Liberia to her   international partners/U. S Government for refusing to support them  under  President  Weah Regime.

During  their  interactions with the press over the weekend,  the Speaker  of the Forum  Mr. Joel U.K Gray   said,  the  Government has failed to take responsibility by supporting the first and legitimate child lead institution in the Country, “Children’s Parliament”  but rather abused children by reducing them as beggars  in order to implement their overall responsibility  and their wellbeing.

Joel said, the government has become  very irresponsible   in taking over the affairs of her own Children  Parliament  and accused the Justice  Ministry of being  mostly in conflict with the law and the protection of the Children  across the Country.

He maintains  that the Government of Liberia has  deliberately refused to implement laws but is demanding parents to take responsibility for their children while she can’t lead the violation of child rights,  but wants citizens to go by what’s constitutional.

“Today at the Ministry of Gender Children and Social protection which is the mother ministry for all Liberia Children have a ” Non persistent support unit” which is responsible to hold onto parents/guardian whose failed to take parental responsibilities of his child and demand him to implies his role, we appreciate their workings in the unit through the Government, but our attention have been drawn to the Government of Liberia who claims that she protect and promote children inline with Article (2) of the 2011 children’s law of Liberia” the Liberia  Children  Parliament  Speaker  explained.

Going  further,  Mr. Gray said that the 2011 Children law of Liberia  which provides   the Gender Ministry  the  responsibility  to providing  safe home for Children  who have being victimized  has become  a toothless bulldog as over 80%  of them are  homeless.

Meanwhile, Joel characterized  the Justice Ministry of Liberia as highly  irresponsible even though  they are one of ministries responsible for children but  are   mostly in conflict with the Law and protection  of their welfare.

“As we all aware that Liberia signed the 1989 United Nations convention on the right of the Child, the African charter on the rights and welfare of a child 1990 but enforce 1999 among  many   others  Children Protocols  including  the Children’s Law of Liberia 2011 which gives the right to all Liberian children to enlightened Government on critical National issues affecting their wellBeing ,but we are yet to feel the euphoria”,  Mr.  Joel U.K Gray Jr. asserted.

They are however  calling on the Speaker of the 54th National Legislature Dr. Bofal Chambers with  his colleagues to  Increase the budget of the Ministry of Justice twice to ensure   fight against drugs among   Children/Youth  across  the Country.
