Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue In Liberia Lead Facilitator, Ambassador Tunde O. Ajisomo has highlighted the importance of advancing the reconciliation process in Liberia to maintain peace.
He said without reconciliation, the country will still grapple over perpetual peace.
Speaking Wednesday, May 29, when he visited Internal Affairs Minister, F. Sakila Nyumalin Sr, at his Office in Monrovia, Amb. Ajisomo reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working with the government on various projects, including the Liberia Peace Building Office and the Traditional Justice System.
Amb. Ajisomo narrated how the organization’s work has been involved with conflict-affected regions including Sudan, Somalia, and Angola.
He emphasized the need for empowering women to be considered in the country’s peace development drive.
In response, Minister Nyumalin expressed fondness for the support from the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Liberia and emphasized the government’s dedication to reconciliation and unity under President Joseph N. Boakai’s leadership.
He stressed the importance of justice in sustaining peace, further highlighting the government’s efforts in reconciliation which he noted has seen efforts towards the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court.
The Internal Affairs Minister assured Ambassador Ajisomo of the government’s commitment to supporting reconciliation and peace processes in Liberia.
He also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, in the country’s peace process.
The meeting between Ambassador Ajisomo and Minister Nyumalin highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and organizations like the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in promoting peace, reconciliation, and unity in Liberia.
