The Liberia National Police Sprayed teargas on supporters of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) including the Chairman of the National Youth League, Emmanuel Johnson while they were on their way to register in Montserrado County electoral district #10.
The partisans of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change who were trucked in the district to register and vote in the upcoming October elections against the incumbent Lawmaker Yekeh Kolubah clashed with Citizens believed to be Yekeh’s supporters as Police sprayed teargas to retain peace.
Over the weekend, normal activities where seized in the district dues to the counter reaction by Citizens to prevent CDCians registering in the district claiming that they are non residents of the district.
Right after the incident, CDC National Chairman, Mr. Morlubah Morlu condemned the violence and said, any partisan caught in violence in district #10 is a lawbreaker who’ll be prosecuted.
“CDC condemns violence in district 10; calls on the Ministry of Justice to Investigate and Penalize Perpetrators.
The Mighty Coalition for Democratic Change is appalled by allegations of violence instigated by citizens via a sullen crowd congregating in district 10. This alleged act undermines the hard-earned peace which has been championed largely by our Standard Bearer, H.E. Dr. George M. Weah”, CDC Chairman, Morlu narrated.
He also condemns the contribution of Hon. Yekeh Kolubah and characterized his action as gangsterism which is repugnant to the standards laid down for senior government officials by establishing a vigilante group that harasses citizens who go to exercise their democratic rights through the voter registration process.
Morlu calls for immediate de-escalation and cautions all actors of the violent who were intending on regrouping to reignite the situation to desist and utilize the administrative or legal framework to seek redress.
