The long awaited naming of a running mate to the mainstream opposition “Unity Party UP Leader”, Amb. Joseph Boakai came to an end over the weekend in Monrovia as he announces the Political leader of the Movement for Democratic Reconstruction MDR , Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Koung as his vice standard bearer and said, he was not looking for a SINLESS ANGEL but someone who understands the suffering of the people and is willing to rescue the Country.
“In my search for a running mate, I sought to find someone who would join me as a partner and build a dedicated team of leaders to rescue our country. I wanted someone young and energetic who will commit to integrity and accountability in governance, commit to reconciling and healing our country and who by their early upbringing understands and connects with youthful generation and a nation still traumatized by war and denial but yet is an example to success”, Boakai told his supporters during the naming ceremony of his running mate on Friday April 28 this year.
Boakai told his supporters that by selecting Koung on his rescue mission, both of them will not only win the elections but intend to redirect the tragic course on which the country is now set on. “I have a mission, and that mission is to ensure that the lost image of Liberia is restored”, he emphasized.
He also said that the Man he has chosen has the resilience like him, commitment and love of country with a lot in common as they both come from a struggling and working-class background, rose by their bootstraps and demonstrated how courage and vision can lead to success even where adversity was evident.
According to him, his vice-presidential choice is a true Liberian who is willing to stand with him in fixing the economy, repairing the broken system, reconciling and uniting their people and providing a better future for their children.
“Our search for a running mate as I said earlier, was not a search for a sinless angel but a real human being whose imperfection and belief in God compels him into seeking redemption and imbibes the humility and willingness to work with a team that will make our country better. One who understands that life is about people not self. One who knows that collective progress will create a vibrant society and enhance opportunities for all”, the Unity Party political Leader asserted.
On his part, MDR political Leader announces a time for a new generation of leaders to take a deliberate and radical stance to reverse the backward direction of the country.
Koung promises with a government that will listen and dispense justice without favor, be accountable to the citizens and protect every citizen across in and out of Liberia.
“We want parents to know that there is a government that will account for their missing children, solve the mystery of disappearances and questionable deaths. We want businesses to have an environment of certainty. We want a respectable government which will not be chastised by the international community.
We have watched more than 5 (five) wasted years and the time has come for a new generation of leaders to take a deliberate and radical stance to reverse the backward direction of our country” Koung assured their supporters in his acceptance statement.
Also, Koung paid courtesy to Boakai Political allies who have been close to him for over five years but were not selected as his running mate.
He said “On this day and with my hearts, I submit to the wisdom and experience of my Big Brother Hon. Benoni Wilfred Urey, my Sister and fellow Senator of Grand Bassa County, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, Hon. Abraham Darius Dillon and many of you whose commitment and loyalty to our country made all this possible”.
However, the controversial montserrado district #10 lawmaker, Yekeh Kolubah cautioned Boakai Koung presidential bid to unite the opposition bloc and move as a single unit to unseat president Weah in the upcoming October elections.
According to Yekeh, only a united opposition can unseat president weah but divided oppositions will fine difficulties.
At the same time, the Montserrado district #10 lawmaker sent a caveat to President Weah by removing him from power with guns if he rigged the election.
“If president Weah use gun to rigg the elections I will move on him to remove him with gun”, Yekeh cautions President Weah
