An unconfirmed  report  reaching  the Afric Daily Newspaper  says, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has canceled his planned visit to the Edward Beyan Kesselly Barracks in Schieffelin, Margibi County  due to security reasons.

The cancellation comes amidst ongoing protests by army wives, who are urging the president to reconsider the appointment of former Army Chief of Staff, Major General Prince C. Johnson III, as  Defense Minister.

Prior to the cancellation, Boakai had announced that the observance of the 67th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day would be scaled down to a short and low-key activity.

He had promised to lead officials on a visit to the Edward Beyan Kesselly Barracks in Schieffelin today to address the grievances of the men and women of the Armed Forces and discuss a way forward.

The observance of the 67th Anniversary of Armed Forces was reduced to low-key activity based on the continued protests by the active Army’s  wives  who are demanding the president  to reconsider  the appointment  of General Johnson as the Defense Minister.

According to some of them, the former  Chief of Staff had been involved in serious  corruption,   depriving  their husbands  the due benefits they deserve.
