Lesson To Learn
The owner of the pro- government media outlet, Freedom Radio who is also the Deputy National Security Director (NSA), Sam Siryon had paid the price for the action of his station manager, Abraham Godsent Wheon for spreading fake, mis and disinformation against the Chief of Staff of the Arm Forces of Liberia (AFL), which has the propensity to destabilizing the fragile peace the Country experiencing.
Following Wheon October 18, 2023, assertion on Freedom FM making serious accusations about political divisions within the ranks of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), FrontPageAfrica Friday October 20, 2023 edition reported that, Freedom FM Chief Executive Officer (CEO), also the Deputy National Security Director (NSA), Sam Siryon was invited by AFL for questioning on code on code security related issues on his link with his Station Manager, Abraham Godsend Wheon.
During his regular talk show, Abraham Wheon insinuated that members of the Armed Forces did not vote for Pres. George Weah in the October 10 presidential elections due to the ill-treatment they had been getting from the Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Prince C. Johnson, III.
According to Wheon, he has a stockpile of information on activities happening in the barracks including the decommissioning of over 20 officers by Maj. Gen. Johnson.
Wheon added that he was also aware that the army chief is a supporter of the mainstream opposition Unity Party Political Leader, Joseph Boakai.
According to FrontPageAfrica, Director Siryon confirmed being apprehend and humiliated by the Army for the action committed by his station Manager.
“I was arrested and humiliated by the Armed Forces of Liberia. I was taken to a room where the Minister of Justice was seated and made to listen to a recording of a Freedom FM broadcast in which Abraham Wheon allegedly made some comments against the army. I was told to have the station retract the broadcast but I refused on grounds that I was disrespected and humiliated. I was stripped of my clothes and shoes and told them I could not act under duress. I feel so humiliated and disturbed,” FrontPageAfrica report quoted Siryon.
However, Abraham Wheon took to his official social media Facebook page a regrettable comment for his action early Friday morning October 20 following the alleged humiliation against his boss.
He said, ““I now retract these statements and offer my sincere apologies for any embarrassment they may have caused to the reputation of the COS and the military. I also acknowledge and respect the Press Statement released by the Press Union of Liberia on this matter.”
Before his boss alleged arrest, Wheon continued his confrontational with the AFL as he posted on his Facebook by saying; “Your be in your UP Chatrooms and think da jungle justice era we in? You think I will just be arbitrarily and capriciously arrested by AFL or any military organization? I am ok and will do the needful in the interest of the safety of national security. The AFL is ‘Force for Good. We are getting there.”
