Speaking at the the National  Aqua Fishery Authority  Life Jackets  distribution  program to the local fishermen in the Borough of NewKru town over the weekend,  the Liberian president   said that the report  from the  Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Liberia, Laurent Delahousse’ describing the City of Monrovia as the disgusting and dirtiest of cities in Africa was misleading.

Weah’s said, Ambassador  Delahouse’s report was proven wrong  after they invited their International partners  who  Conducted  their survey  to clean  the country  but later informed them that Liberia has less dirt to implement their operation.

“Liberia is a clean place despite  the so called by the international community that our City is dirty.

We are clean and will just have to  continue to clean our Country,  don’t mind those who want yo make news out of us by saying our Country is dirty.

We invited our International  Partners  to clean  our garbage  to  turn it into different components but said, we have less dirt  as a result,  they cannot operate  in our Country”, the President told   Citizens.

According to him, he is a very organized Kru boy who doesn’t just make a big mouth but lived all around the world making him the   best   among Liberian Politicians.

President Weah maintains, It’s impossible to achieve  something  the Country  didn’t achieve in 171 years before  his presidency.

In early October 2021, the  Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Liberia, Laurent Delahousse’ describes the City of Monrovia as the disgusting and dirtiest of cities in Africa.

β€œI am aware that tremendous progress has been made but more needs to be done because a clean city is critical to attract tourists and create jobs for young people – which is a big issue in Liberia”, he said.

Speaking at the start of a two-day Solid Waste Management Forum here he notes, β€œMonrovia is disgusting and the dirtiest city of the many places I have visited in my work in Africa.”

According to the EU Head of Delegation, in waste management, an essential factor is the community leaders, noting β€œYou represent the people and an essential transmission line between the objectives of your government and the implementation by the people. And also, an essential transmission line between the needs of the people and your government”.

β€œI am not very familiar with this issue  of waste management in Monrovia  because I have only been here for a year. I want to inform myself and learn more”, the EU Envoy stated.

However, Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee lauds the Head of the European Union Delegation to Liberia for recognizing the enormity of the challenge the City Government faces in handling solid waste.

Mayor Koijee says Ambassador Laurent Delahousse’ comment that Monrovia is one of the dirtiest cities he has visited is basically a restatement of the Monrovia City Corporation’s position that β€œsolid waste handling in the City of Monrovia is overwhelming our capacity to deal with the existing challenges we have in the absence of a sustainable approach”.
